The Vision

Once our clients had moved into and lived in the vibrant family home, it was time to focus on their guests. What began as a plan to mirror the main home, evolved into an opportunity to create something all its own. Inspired by Kauai, one of their favorite places to visit, the guest house was designed to feel like a small slice of heaven for both family and guests.

We wanted it to have a delicate rhythm, so that it would feel like a walk on the beach echoed in the bedroom wallpaper, a romantic dance as seen when the living room pendant softly sways on a breezy summer day, and then at the same time feel connected to the outdoors when the bifold doors open to the salt water pool.

To tie it back to the main house, we worked with the same furniture maker who built the marigold armchairs in the great room to design a custom sofa for the guest house living room creating a subtle connection between the two spaces.

Why It Works

What makes the guest house work is its balance of escape and connection. It offers guests a comfortable sense of respite away from the rhythm of everyday family life, while still functioning as a natural extension of the home’s outdoor entertaining spaces.

It also works beautifully on a practical level. The materials were chosen to handle real life - splashing, play, and easy entertaining - without losing the sense of softness and transportive calm that defines the space.
